Solar Radiometer

Invented in 1873 by the chemist Sir William Crookes, the Solar Radiometer consists of an airtight glass bulb containing a partial vacuum. Inside is a set of vanes which are mounted on a spindle. When exposed to light, the vanes rotate; with more intense light, the vanes spin faster, providing a quantitative measurement of electromagnetic radiation intensity.
